May 20th Work Day

Sunday May 20th we are having a work day to start prepping for the new 9 holes. We will be focussing on clearing/cleaning the fairway and greens areas on what will be holes 19 and 20. Any and all help is appreciated and will certainly be paid back in good course karma at the Harvest.

Planning on being there by 9A. Weed whackers, saws, trimmers, etc are the tools du jour. If you have them, bring them along.
There’s also a few other fairways that are getting rather hairy and could use a trim, so we’ll be hitting those too.
Namely holes 2, 6, 10 and 13.

Dawn Gogin and Mom Lescalleet are graciously providing lunch for anyone that volunteers. As you know, Dawn and Mom Lescalleet are the backbone of our culinary artists that help provide the food for Falls tournaments, so you know it’s going to be awesome. As if helping out at the Falls wasn’t incentive enough, now there’s this.

And to further entice you, anyone that helps will be put in a drawing for free entry into the 5th Annual WF Harvest! Who’s going to miss this? Only a fool, that’s who.

2nd Annual Fools At The Falls

What a beautiful day for a disc golf tournament. I am continually humbled by the response to events at Whispering Falls.

The local volunteer crew that make it possible are the backbone of this whole operation, and I wouldn’t do it without you. Cari Lescalleet, Russell Johnston, Thomas Moore, Tim Lescalleet, Greg Lescalleet, Leslie Jubb Lescalleet, Dick and Dawn Gogin, Matt Swartz and Ian Donnakay all played an integral role in yesterdays event, and I truly appreciate your help and more importantly cherish our friendships.

We had some awesome sponsors step up to make this event happen as well, David Newlin, Chas Ford, Giles Run Thorn Divers, Dick & Dawn Gogin, John Buck, Justin Weaver, Matt Swartz, Dan Becker, Thom & Debbie Moore & Hannah, Logan Rook, Ian Donnakay, Disc Outfitters, The Johnston Family and the Lescalleet Family. Again, without your support, this wouldn’t have happened.

Thank you to all the players that made it out, and made this another sell out event at Whispering Falls. I am always humbled by the turnout and the love that our course gets. It is truly a labor of love from the local “theys” that make the Falls what she is. Thank you to everyone that made the trip to the Falls for the first time, we had four divisional winners that were playing the course for the first time!

Thank you to the guys I got to share the card with, Uncle Jay., Erik Smith, Ian Liddell, Joel Provencher and Dan Becker- gentlemen and scholars and excellent golfers as well.

A huge thank you to my brother Tim for again holding down the day of administrative duties. Your help makes it all possible and gives me the opportunity to relax a little and enjoy a day of golf. I’m still holding out hope that you’ll dust off that bag some day…

Thank you to my wonderful wife, Cari for continuing to help support me in the hours I spend preparing both at home and at the course, and for graciously putting up with all the frisbees piled up around the house.

As mentioned before, we will be playing the “Narsty Nine” on Sunday, complete with temp baskets. I will be there at 11:30A to set up, if you’re bringing a basket and can get there then that would be great. I’d like to tee as close to 1P as possible. First round of 9 as singles, second round of 9 as seeded doubles, best score paired with worst score, second best paired with second worst, so on and so forth….

I would like to have a dry run on the proposed extra 9 holes before the Freeze. If you have a basket you can bring on Sunday Jan 8th let me know. I’m thinking one round of 9 of singles, then seeded doubles for the second rd.

I have two, possibly three baskets.

Russ- you have a portable, right?
Ski?
Matt?
Anybody else?

Even if you don’t have a basket it’d be great if you can make it out and lend your feedback before the Freeze.

1st Annual Little Heiskell Challenge

The Little Heiskell Challenge was, by all my measures, a success. Huge thanks to all 63 players that made it out, I can’t believe the turnout for a first time event on a course no one has played before. Astounding! A huge thanks to the City of Hagerstown for their support of disc golf and the trust they put in me to run their first event. Disc Outfitters hooked it up with the extra nine baskets, handling AM payouts, sweet trophy discs and just being great guys in general.

Many thanks to Greg Lescalleet and Leslie Jubb Lescalleet for helping in any way possible and Mom for the killer soup. Russell Johnston, Thomas Moore, Tyler Stevens, Dan Becker, Matt Swartz, Dick & Dawn Gogin: you guys are an incredible supporting cast. I would never think of running a tournament without help, and I couldn’t ask for better help than the crew I have.

Finally, thanks to the guys I played with, Russ, Jay Gobrecht, Ian Liddell, Naved Hasnain and Tom Dub Kim- it was an absolute blast and an honor to battle with you guys.

A quality event that all participants enjoyed was my main goal. Playing well was a secondary personal goal. Taking the W is just icing on the cake. Thanks again to everyone that helped make this event possible.

I’ve been slacking on the emails. I doubt you even noticed, but I apologize anyway. This past Sunday was a day of reflection, remembrance and honoring those lost 10 years ago. It also happened to be a beautiful to celebrate our freedom in the woods. Seven golfers made it out. If anyone (I’m looking at you, Ian) has Josh’s last name and email, let me know. Lot’s of things coming up, so get to marking your calender and making plans.
• September 24th, Antrim Township Community Park Open House
9AM-?. We’ve been asked to have a presence at the Park’s Open House. We’re planning on setting up an EX-Up (Dad- this is you), handing out some literature (Thom- can you print some maps to give away) and doing some demonstrations. A decent club showing would be nice. Ideally I’d like to have some people hanging out at the practice basket to show putting techniques, a few showing some midrange/approach shots on 18, and a few demonstrating drives at hole 1. I’ll give 5 Sunday Devotional League points to anyone that shows up for an hour.

• October 1st and 2nd, Mountain Jam X, Charlottesville, VA (<<< This is a PDGA event, with Ams playing on Saturday and Pros on Sunday. They are offering trophy only on Sunday for $15, which means you’re paying less than you would for the Am day. As of right now I am planning on playing on Sunday to take advantage of the reduced fee. This event is at Walnut Creek Park. I’ve not played there, but I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from golfers I know and trust.

• October 15th, Codorus Autumn Open, Hanover, PA
You all know and love (I hope) Codorus. I hope we can have a strong 717 showing at the Cod. This event is being run by tournament director extraordinaire, Mike Solt, MR.DiscGolf.com himself. Mike told me pre-reg should open next weeks ometime, when I know you’ll know. I’ll get you details when I have them.

• October 23rd, Hawk Hollow AM Open, Spotsylvania, VA (<<
This is easily one of my favorite courses, and a great event to boot. Biscoe puts on a solid show, and lunch is quite possibly the best bbq you’ve had, made by a vegan. I know Matt Swartz is going with me, Kelly’s talking about it too. Who’s going with us?
PDGA C-Tier, Two rounds. Players package and lunch included in entry. Entry is $35 for current pdga members, $45 for others.
Field limit 72 for each event.
