I’m running a few weeks behind… Scores from the 12th have been uploaded.

Wayne: 64
Dan: 65
Billy: 77

Corey Duesler 41-37 78
Codey Huff 42-38 80
Craig Schuler 40-38 78
“One bad round is an aberration. Two in a row is the beginning of a downward trend. Not pretty.” -Shooby

Nobody came out to play on Father’s Day so I didn’t get any points. I did manage to almost lose two rollers, so I have that going for me.
Pops and I met with some Park representatives on Monday to discuss a few new pin placements due to increased park traffic and construction. Hole 11 will be sporting a new A “Summer” position, short of the gully and on the right side of the driveway. Hopefully this will alleviate any interference with most of the park patrons that are out enjoying the beautiful Conococheague. Hole 16 will also be getting a new A pin to widen the gap between our green and the new pavilion. We’re looking at basically the same line, just about 60ft or so short and slightly right. And the masses rejoiced… As always, keep an eye open for other park patrons that may not know we are out there. Pedestrians always get the right of way, be courteous, and explain what we’re doing. You never know, you may turn somebody new onto the sport.

This past Sunday was a pleasantly overcast day with little to no wind for a change. Quite unFallslike. No record breaking scores, nothing real impressive at all unfortunately. Wayne canned a long birdie but on 6 from the fairway. I missed a 10fter for bird on 18. Brad: 64
Wayne: 66
Thom: 88

Saturday July 9th is the Crawdad Cooker, PDGA C-Tier at Creekside. Anybody interested in going?

The Harvest is creeping up on us. We have a pretty solid sponsorship base, but where some is good, more is better. There’s also plenty of weed whacking and small trimming that needs attention. If you find yourself with some free time jump on in. We’ll also be needing some hands on assistance day of, so even if you’re not planning on playing (which you should be) come on out for a few hours and get your hands dirty.

We’ve also been asked to have a presence at the Antrim Township Community Park Open House on Saturday September 24th. It’s a little ways off, and I really don’t have any details yet, but pt it on your calender. We’ll more than likely be doing some demos and showing interested people about the game we all love.

***Rules question of the week: Email your correct answer to me and get an extra point in the Sunday Devotional League.

A competitor’s tee shot lands 20 feet up in a tree that is fully in bounds. As he is promptly walking to the tree, the disc falls to the ground. However, at least four minutes have elapsed since the disc came to rest in the tree. What is the ruling?

A) One throw penalty, 2-meter rule violation since that is where the disc came to rest. B) Play the disc from where it lies, no penalty.
C) Play the disc from where it lies, but with a one throw penalty since the disc was up in the tree longer than the allowed 3 minute search time.
D) Play the disc from a point directly underneath the tree, where the disc originally came to rest, no penalty. E) Re-tee, add one penalty throw.

See ya on the course!

Scores for this past week have been uploaded to our discgolfscene.com league page. If you click on your name, you’ll see a “total money earned” category. This is going to be our points system for this year. You get two points for just showing up to play, and one point for each person you beat. No points for ties, because well, nobody likes kissing their sister. As of this posting, current points standings are as follows: Brad:54
Russ: 33
Dan Becker: 29
Tim Ski: 27
Thom: 17
Matt: 14
Kelly: 13
Glen: 13
Dick: 12
Dave Briscoe: 7
John: 7
Logan: 7
Codey: 7
Nick: 6
Boger: 6
Corey: 5
Shooby: 5
Tom H: 4
Greg: 4

So, it pays well to play well, but you gotta show up. We will be doing some prizes and awards of some sort for point standings at the end of the league, which will be our 2012 Freeze Ice Bowl, date TBD but it will be sometime in February. I can also calculate some other random stats, so I’m sure they’ll be plenty of options to win some shwag. In the interest of participation, any round played at Whispering Falls on any Sunday with two or more league participants will be counted towards your points. Just make sure to post up that you’re playing and send me the scores.

This Sunday, June 12th I will be playing at 11:30. My baby is turning 2 so I have to get home to man the grill for evening festivities. Somebody come play with me so I can add to my points. :)

Still time to raise sponsorship for the Harvest. This year is shaping up to be a good one. If you’re interested in helping in any way, please let me know.

Look for an article about the Falls in this weekend’s Record Herald. See ya at the course!

It’s the better late than never edition… A humid and overcast Sunday saw 4 golfers enjoying a round. We got rained on a little, but it wasn’t too terrible for those of us that had umbrellas… Greg Walter came out a hiatus and kept pace for quite some time. A few more made putts and it could have been a different round all together.
Brad…63
Greg…66
Dick…67
Thom…86

This Sunday Russ and I will be heading to The Blockhouse Country Club and Disc Golf Course (formerly known as The Grange) for A Day in May PDGA event. Wish us luck. I know for sure Thom said he’d be at the Falls on Sunday so don’t be shy.

It’s that time of year again. The Harvest is creeping up on us and now is the time to get prepared. When you’re out playing pick up trash, move down limbs and debris, make note and let me know of any areas that need attention. We also need financial sponsorship so that we can provide the type of event that players have come to know and expect from the 717 Crew. Imagine what kind of event we could hold if each person reading this raise $100… Ask your Grandma, ask your neighbor, sell some unused plastic on eBay, sell some plasma. I’m sure most of your employers have some sort of Community Relations department, go relate to them and see what they say. Print out the letter, put a little note on it so they know who it’s from and go have a talk. What’s the worst they’ll say? No? But maybe they’ll say yes…

You’ve got to be tired of reading this, but it’s never more true than when we’re getting prepped for an event: Many hands make light work.

It was a beautiful day to be outside, and five of us enjoyed the break from the rain at the Falls. Sunday’s scores can be seen here. Be sure to check out the pictures Dick took of the rising water. It was a little moist.

If you are interested in getting an embroidered dry-fit shirt, now is the time to let me know. The order will go in this Friday.

I will not be out next Sunday, I’ll be enjoying Easter with the family, I suggest you do the same.

I also will not be out on May 1st, Matt and I will be traveling to Pohick for May Day, a PDGA C-tier. I also suggest you do the same. If you’re interested, let me know asap.

May 22nd is the Amateur Championship at The Grange. If you’ve been, you know what’s up;If not, you should try to make this trip. Russ and I are going, if you’re interested, again let me know.

Until I see you on the course-

WFG: Fools edition

7 04 2011

Fools results are online for your viewing pleasure. Erik Smith won the playoff on hole 1B over John Murphy. Both guys put up some impressive scores playing the course for the first time! Here’s some pictures for your peep holes.

Russ wrote: “Thanks to all who came out and supported the event. We were very pleasantly surprised by the advanced sellout and sorry to have to turn people away. Much thanks to the leader of our band, Brad. You and your family continue to grow a community of disc golf here that I am very proud to be a part of.

The park and surrounding community can’t help but pay attention to the growing success of the sport at Whispering Falls and the neighboring courses. I know our commitment to course upkeep, improvement, and hopefully expansion is something that they are aware of and I know will support when the finances make sense.

Thanks again to all who continue to support the club and course. See you out there.”

Despite a wet first round I feel the first Fools At The Falls was a success. For the first time, we sold out in pre-registrations, for that I want to thank all the players. You obviously like something that we’re doing and we appreciate the support. Without you there wouldn’t have been a need to add a second sanctioned event at The Falls.

I have a laundry list of folks to thank, without them this wouldn’t have happened:

• My Wife, Cari- she put up with more late nights filled with scorecards and Excel sheets than anyone, helped with inventory and food preparing and just in general puts up with me.
• Russ- constant assistance with all things Whispering Falls. Couldn’t ask for a better partner in crime.
• My Brother, Tim- continues to manage the scores/payouts better and faster than anyone else, course prep work and continual sounding board
• My Dad, Greg- photographer, prep work, all around assistance with anything and everything
• My Mom, Leslie, My Aunt Kelcey and Christina Kopp- everyone raved about the friendly lunch staff, thanks!
• Matt Swartz, Thom Moore, Tim Ski and Dick Gogin- thanks for the crock pots, and thanks for emptying the trash, Dick. Sorry you got smelly.
• Dawn Gogin- I’m always holding my breath hoping you’ll offer to cook something!
• My Mother-in-Law, Judy, the potato soup was devoured before I had a chance to get any.
• My cousin, Tyler for manning the grill. You’re a life saver, we all know Timmy can’t grill his way out of McDonald’s bag.
• Ski- I think maybe you’re stealing some of the course mojo with all your cleaning and cutting, but it sure is looking nice.
• Dan Becker- lunchtime snacks, on course water coolers, and two practice baskets. You’re the man.
• Bobby Hermann and Thom Moore- thank you for your sponsorship.
• Discraft for the hook up on some Mr. T emblazoned discs, they went like hot cakes.
• Antrim Township Community Park- the support is amazing and appreciated by all.

Thanks again to All the golfers that came out. See you in August!
I also want to thank everyone reading this. If you are you obviously have been a part of Whispering Falls in some shape or manner, and without the support of everyone involved we wouldn’t be where we are. A four year old course, built where there was virtually no existing local player base, tournaments being run on a learn as we go principal, and we sold out in pre-registration and turned away a dozen others. Pretty awesome if you ask me, and it makes me proud to be a part of this.

See ya on the course!

It was a surprisingly beautiful day on Sunday, regardless of what the weathermen had predicted. Seven golfers got a round in with our merry band of misfits, with quite a few others spotted along the way.

Brad………..57
Tim Ski…….60
Russ………..64
Eric Boger…65
Dick G……..71
Logan………80
Nick K………90

Matt and I got a little extra practice in on Monday at Wilson, even engaging in a little match play action. It was a tight battle but I finished it up on the 8th hole, winning 2 and 1.

This Saturday is the Fools! there’s still time to pre-register, and if you haven’t I suggest it. If you don’t you better be there early, we’re up to 39 pre-registered as of this morning! If you can’t play but want to come out and help we could use extra hands. See ya there! -Brad
